Minnesota Gold Star Mothers Chapter
Welcome to the Minnesota Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers,
Inc. As with our National organization, we are a group of mothers who
have lost a child who was on active duty in the military. Together we
honor our children’s memories while serving and healing together.
Back in the 1970s, Minnesota had a couple of Chapters of AGSM, Inc.
Over the years, membership dwindled and the Chapters became inactive.
With the United States involvement in the War Against Terror along with
the dangers of regular military life there has been a rise in the number
of Gold Star Mothers in our state. In the summer of 2009, a group of
Gold Star moms banded together to ask the AGSM National Office to grant
us a charter to start a new chapter here in MN.
Our charter was granted October 1, 2009. In December we began
meeting. Our Chapter includes all of MN so our meetings are held via
Video/Teleconferencing to make meeting attendance available to as many
members as possible. If we get enough members who live near each other
we can have a real meeting.
North and South Dakota are included in the Minnesota Department of the
National American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. Neither of these states have
an active Chapter at this time. Therefore, we welcome the Gold Star moms
from these states to be a part of our group.
