Maryland Chapter

The Maryland Chapter of AGSM has been re-established. New officers were elected for 2009 - 2010. Gold Star families from Maryland were treated to a wonderful concert and celebration on July 4th! Trace Adkins and the Kool Production company allowed us to experience the concert festivities to honor our children who were lost during wars of conflict. This complete celebration was the brain storm of a wonderful lady, Monique Mitchell. She arranged everything from flowers in our hotel rooms, to transportation, name tags and dinner for all 100 of us. Trace Adkins even posed for photographs with each family. The lead singer before Trace Adkins came on stage, John Lusby, wrote a song dedicated to the fallen. It was produced in Nashville and should hit the record...

A memorial service honoring Delaware and Maryland Gold Star mothers was held at Ocean City, Maryland by the Department of Maryland Veterans of Foreign Wars on June 8 2009. Delaware Department President, Pauline Anderson and Maryland Chapter President, Carol Roddy were present.

The Maryland Gold Star Mothers met at the historic Baltimore War Museum for their June meeting. They were treated to a tour of the museum which dates back to artifacts of the Civil War. The chapter is currently making blankets for the wounded soldiers at Bethesda and Walter Reed Hospitals. On June 27th, the GSM's along with the Blue Star mothers of Maryland and the Patriot Guard hosted a picnic on the grounds of Walter Reed and presented the blankets to some of the soldiers recovering from injuries.

In celebration of Armed Forces Day 2009, Aberdeen Proving Ground, in Aberdeen, Maryland hosted Gold Star Families in Maryland with a breakfast and ceremony. An Oak tree, dedicated to families of the fallen will be planted on the base. Included in the picture are Gold Star mothers, Cindy Lohman, Janice Chance, MaryJane Walton, Carol Roddy and Sandy Siedel.
